Bexleyheath Tai Chi and Qigong Seminars 7/8
th March 2020
This is the 7
th year that Grand Master Faye Yip has spent a weekend in Bexleyheath sharing her skill and knowledge and helping us to develop our understanding and improve our Tai Chi and Qigong practice.
Seven is also the number that symbolises togetherness and harmony as it is considered to be the union of yin, yang and the five elements earth, water, fire, wood and metal regarded as the basis of the world in ancient Chinese culture.
Surrender yourself to the energy... urged Master Faye...and during the weekend we did.
The focus for Saturday s workshop was Mawangdui, a series of 12 qigong forms dating back to the Han Dynasty. The 12 gentle movements work with the flow of energy through the meridians and encourage connection and synchronicity between body and mind.
The 12 bending and stretching movements engage core muscles and are designed to stimulate internal organs and improve body awareness and flexibility in the joints, hip and spine. A thoroughly enjoyable day....the depth of teaching....the breakdown of each movement....the way Master Faye moved so effortlessly and accurately was inspiring . We did work muscles we had forgotten we had but ended the day energised and inspired.
Sunday began with Master Faye teaching us the Beijing 10 Step, a compact short form of familiar movements from the 24 Step. The 10 Step was well chosen....a good routine to take home if you live in a small space .
Because the movements are very familiar it was relatively easy to grasp the new form so we were able to spend time working on improving stance, how we position our feet, how we turn our hip all the little details that improve transition between movements and make a form flow.
The afternoon session started with a short meditation gently leading us into working in pairs to explore and experience the martial art application of Tai Chi movements. This was a fun but practical way to help us re-think how we move, how we stand, how we execute each movement in a Tai Chi form.
Master Faye is an inspirational teacher....her ability to demonstrate movements....explain the finer details in such a clear and accessible way was amazing...and beautiful to watch .
The weekend was really well-organised and had a wonderful flow and energy....the atmosphere friendly and relaxed .
We left determined to improve our practice and with fingers crossed there will be another seminar next year.
